The iPhone screen protector landscape in 2026

Apple's Ceramic Shield is now in its fifth generation, and the iPhone 16 series introduced significant improvements to scratch resistance — particularly around the Pro models with their titanium-edged displays. Despite Apple's marketing, however, Ceramic Shield is still glass. Glass scratches. Glass cracks. And on the Pro Max especially — where the display alone costs £409 to replace at an Apple Store — a screen protector remains the cheapest insurance you can buy.

The good news is that fitting a protector to a modern iPhone is easier than ever. The flat-edged design that returned with the iPhone 12 means that virtually all aftermarket protectors fit cleanly. The bad news is that getting one on without dust trapped underneath remains a small art form. We strongly recommend an alignment-frame product like Spigen's EZ Fit for any iPhone 14 or later.

Top Pick
Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit (iPhone) The alignment frame eliminates the single hardest part of fitting glass — getting it on straight without dust or bubbles. Drop the protector into the included tray, place the tray over your iPhone, lower the protector, and peel. Done in under a minute. Verified compatible with Face ID, Dynamic Island and Action Button on every iPhone model from 12 onwards. amazon View on Amazon UK

By iPhone model

Apple now sells active models from the iPhone SE (3rd gen, 2022) through the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Each has slightly different dimensions and the cut-out for the Dynamic Island / Action Button changed several times. Always buy the variant listed for your exact model — a "universal iPhone" protector will not fit perfectly.

iPhone 16 Pro Max & iPhone 16 Pro

The Pro models have the largest displays Apple has ever shipped — 6.9" and 6.3" respectively — and are the costliest to repair. The Spigen EZ Fit, Belkin UltraGlass 2, and ESR Armorite all have model-specific variants. Privacy versions are popular among Pro users for commute use. See our dedicated iPhone 16 Pro Max protector guide, or browse on Amazon UK →

iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus

Standard iPhone 16 (6.1") and 16 Plus (6.7") share the same flat aluminium-framed design as the Pro, just without the titanium. Same protectors fit, often cheaper. Browse iPhone 16 protectors →

iPhone 15 series (15 / 15 Plus / 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max)

Still on sale, still extremely well supported by every brand. The 15 Pro Max in particular has a deep aftermarket — virtually every brand on this site has a Pro Max variant. See our iPhone 15 Pro Max protector guide, or browse iPhone 15 protectors →

iPhone 14 / 14 Plus / 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max

Still hugely popular. Many shops still sell unlocked 14 Pro models. Protector availability is excellent and prices are at their cheapest as the model ages. Browse iPhone 14 protectors →

iPhone SE (2022, 3rd gen)

The SE has the older Touch ID home button and no notch. Almost any "iPhone 8/SE2/SE3" listed protector will fit. Cheap, plentiful, no fingerprint compatibility issues to worry about. Browse iPhone SE protectors →

iPhone 13 / 12 / 11

Older but still widely used. Compatible with virtually every brand we recommend; prices are at their lowest. iPhone 13 · iPhone 12 · iPhone 11

Will a screen protector affect Face ID or Dynamic Island?

Face ID will not be affected by any modern screen protector — the True Depth camera array sits above the screen and "sees" past the glass. The Dynamic Island, similarly, is a software feature that lives on the screen surface; it works perfectly through any protector. The Action Button on iPhone 15 Pro and 16 series sits on the side of the phone and is also unaffected by any front-facing protector.

The one thing to watch is the proximity sensor for screen-off-during-call. On a tiny number of cheap unbranded protectors, the protector covers this sensor and the screen stays on during calls. None of our recommendations have this issue — but it's the single most reported problem with sub-£5 unbranded glass.

Curved-edge iPhones (Plus/Pro Max): a note

iPhones from the 12 onwards have flat sides but the screen still curves slightly into the frame. Some "edge-to-edge" protectors try to extend this curve and end up lifting at the corners. Our recommendation is to buy the standard (slightly inset) glass — it's more reliable and you don't notice the millimetre of bezel that remains visible. All Top 10 picks above are designed this way.

Frequently asked — iPhone-specific

Will a screen protector fit my iPhone with my case?

Quality-brand protectors are all designed to be "case-friendly," meaning they sit slightly inside the screen edge so any case lip clears them. Apple's own MagSafe cases, OtterBox, Spigen, and Smartish all have ample clearance. Cheap cases with very tight lips — particularly some 360°-protection cases — can lift the protector at the corners.

Does the Apple Pencil work with iPhone protectors?

Apple Pencil is iPad-only. iPhones use capacitive touch only. If you stylus-input on iPhone with a third-party stylus, all our recommended protectors work fine.

What about the iPhone 16e?

The iPhone 16e (Apple's lower-cost 2025 entry) shares dimensions with the iPhone 14 — most 14-fitting protectors are listed as also fitting 16e. Verify on the listing before buying.
