Which glass fits which Pro Max

Apple's figures give the 17 Pro Max and 18 Pro Max identical bodies (163.4 × 78.0 × 8.75 mm). The 16 Pro Max had the same 6.9-inch diagonal but a different body, so older glass will sit off-centre or catch the case lip.

Glossy glass and Apple's anti-reflective coating

Apple's iPhone 17 generation added an anti-reflective coating to the Ceramic Shield 2 front glass. Standard glossy protectors sit on top of that coating, so the phone will reflect more light with the protector on than without it. Most people only notice outdoors. If you bought the phone partly for its outdoor visibility, go without, or try a matte protector knowing it softens the image. For everyone else, the scratch protection is still worth a little extra glare.

Fitting a 6.9-inch protector

The larger the glass, the more likely a speck of dust ends up in the middle. Three habits make the most difference:

1. Run a hot shower for a few minutes and fit it in the bathroom, where the steam settles airborne dust.
2. Clean with the alcohol wipe, dry with the microfibre, then dab the whole screen with a dust sticker, not just the specks you can see.
3. Use the tray, and lower the glass from one end rather than dropping it flat.
