No bubbles. No dust. No misalignment. The exact steps the pros use — and how to fix problems if you don't get it right first time.
The single biggest tip: buy a protector with an alignment frame. Brands like Spigen EZ Fit and ESR with alignment tray include a plastic frame that holds the protector in perfect position while you lower it onto your phone. This eliminates the single biggest cause of installation failures (misalignment) and dramatically reduces the second biggest (dust). If you can choose, choose alignment-frame.

Dust is your enemy. Two options work:
Whatever you do, don't install with a window open or a fan running.
Skin oils transfer to the protector edges and cause adhesion problems at the corners. Soap and water, dry on a clean towel.
Quality protectors include: alcohol prep wipe, microfibre cloth, dust-removal sticker (looks like washi tape), and the protector itself. Lay them out in order: prep wipe, microfibre, dust sticker, protector.
So you can see fingerprints and dust against a black screen. Mandatory. You'll miss small specks against a white background.
Cover the entire screen edge-to-edge. The alcohol breaks down skin oils and pre-existing fingerprint residue.
Until the screen is mirror-perfect. Tilt under a light source — any streak or speck visible now will be trapped under your protector forever. Re-wipe until clean.
The sticky tape provided will lift specks the microfibre missed. Patient, careful work — every visible speck.
Hold by the edges only. Don't touch the adhesive side. The backing usually has a "1" or "remove" sticker — peel that and discard it.
For tempered glass: hover the protector over the screen, line up the speaker cut-out at the top, then lower onto the centre of the screen. It will start to suck itself down — let it. Don't press from the centre, let the adhesive pull from the middle outward.
For film (TPU/hydrogel): most films are wet-installed. Spray the screen lightly with the included solution, lower the film, and press out the liquid with the included squeegee. Liquid carries away dust.
Small air bubbles will work themselves out within 24–48 hours as the adhesive fully cures. Larger bubbles or any with visible dust will not — you'll need to re-fit.
Curved screens defeat flat tempered glass. You have three options:

Designed to fit Samsung's curve. Standard install but the protector is pre-shaped to the bezel curve.
The flexible film conforms to the curve. Wet install — soak the screen, position, squeegee out the liquid. Takes practice but is recoverable if you mess up.
Two displays, two materials.
Outer cover screen: standard tempered glass install. Most brands sell Fold-specific outer-display variants.

If the bubble is small (sub-mm) and clear: leave it. Adhesive will cure around it within 48 hours.
If it has dust visible inside: lift the corner with a piece of tape, stick a fresh piece of tape onto the dust speck, peel away. Re-lower the protector. This works ~70% of the time before the adhesive picks up too much fluff.
Two causes: oil residue on the screen edge, or a case lip that's too tight. For oil: lift the corner, alcohol-wipe that section of screen, re-press. For the case: take the case off — does it stay flat? If yes, your case is the problem; consider a case-friendly alternative. If no, the protector edge is contaminated; re-fit.
Almost always a calibration issue, not a protector issue. Settings → Biometrics → delete all stored prints → re-register. The phone calibrates the sensor depth to the new total of screen + protector. This solves ~95% of post-install fingerprint complaints. If still failing after re-registration: the protector is too thick or low quality — replace with a brand-name alternative.
Your phone has touch sensitivity settings. On iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Touch Sensitivity (some models). On Android: Settings → Display → Touch Sensitivity (many Samsung and Pixel models). Boosting this compensates for the slight added thickness of glass.
That's the protector doing its job. The crack absorbed an impact that would otherwise have hit your screen. Replace it — the protector is sacrificial.
For dust inspection. Phone torch works in a pinch, but a separate torch lets you angle it precisely.
The one in the box gets used quickly. Have spares.
Useful for pushing out small bubbles. Many protectors include one.
