Android screen protectors beyond Samsung and Pixel

Motorola, Xiaomi, Honor and the rest sell millions of phones in the UK and get a fraction of the accessory attention. Buying for them takes a different method.

Short answer

Match the model number from Settings → About phone, not the name. Then check two things: whether your screen is curved at the edges, which rules out ordinary flat glass, and whether the fingerprint reader is under the screen, which rules out thick or privacy glass on optical sensors.

Find the model code first

These brands reuse names across years and regions, and listings copy each other's titles. The model code is the reliable match. On any Android phone: Settings → About phone → Model number. Search that code plus "screen protector" rather than the marketing name.

The three questions that decide the protector

  1. Is the screen flat or curved? Look at the phone side-on against a straight edge. Curved screens need curve-specific options: UV liquid glass, TPU film or case-friendly glass that covers the flat centre only.
  2. Where is the fingerprint reader? Under the screen means the protector matters. Most mid-range Android phones use optical sensors, which dislike thick or tinted glass. Side-key readers are unaffected.
  3. Who makes glass for it? Smaller brands get less aftermarket support. If nothing is listed for your model code, a trim-to-fit film is the fallback, as on less common tablets.

Buying habits that work for these brands

  • Search the model code, then sort by newest to avoid listings for an older generation of the same name.
  • Read the compatible-models list in the description, not the title.
  • Prefer multipacks: for mid-range phones the price difference between budget and premium glass buys several spares.
  • If the listing photo shows a different camera layout from your phone, it's the wrong generation.

Questions people ask

How do I find my Android phone's model number?

Settings → About phone → Model number. Use that code when searching for a protector; marketing names repeat across years and regions.

Do privacy protectors work on mid-range Android phones?

Often poorly. Many use optical in-display fingerprint readers, and a privacy filter can block the light they rely on.
