Galaxy Z Fold8 screen protectors

The standard Z Fold8 has a new, wider shape, so earlier Fold protectors are out. Here's what to use on each screen.

Short answer

Cover screen (5.5-inch): tempered glass made for the Z Fold8. Inner screen (7.6-inch): keep the protective film Samsung fits at the factory, and have Samsung replace it if it wears. Never use glass inside. Fold7 accessories don't fit, because the Fold8 is a new, wider shape.

Which Fold8 do you have?

Samsung launched two Fold8 models at Unpacked in London on 22 July 2026, and they don't share protectors:

The Fold8's cover screen is wider and shorter than on earlier Folds, which is what makes it more usable closed. It also means every older Fold protector is the wrong shape.

Cover screen: ordinary glass works

The cover display is a normal, flat, non-folding panel. Tempered glass protects it the same way it would on any phone. It's the screen that takes the pocket wear, so it's also where a protector earns its keep. Look for glass that names the Fold8 (not "Fold8 Ultra" and not "Fold7") and supports the side fingerprint reader, which shouldn't be affected anyway because it's in the power key.

Inner screen: leave the factory film alone

Samsung has fitted a protective film to the inner display of every Galaxy Z Fold, and advises owners not to peel it off: the film is part of how the folding screen is protected. If it bubbles or lifts along the crease, which tends to happen after months of use, Samsung service centres can replace it. Don't put glass over it, and don't stack a second film on top: an extra layer strains the crease every time you close the phone.

Questions people ask

Do Galaxy Z Fold7 screen protectors fit the Fold8?

No. The standard Fold8 has a new 5.5-inch cover screen with a wider 10:16 shape and a 7.6-inch 4:3 inner screen, so Fold7 protectors are the wrong size and shape.

Can I remove the pre-installed protector on the Z Fold8 inner screen?

Samsung advises against it. The factory film is part of the folding screen's protection. If it wears or bubbles, have it replaced by Samsung service rather than peeling it yourself.

Can you put tempered glass on a folding screen?

No. Rigid glass can't bend, so it would crack or stop the phone closing. Glass is only for the non-folding cover screen.
