Fit tempered glass sized for your exact console: 6.2-inch for the original Switch, 5.5-inch for the Lite, 7.0-inch for the OLED. Their screens are plastic and scratch far more easily than phone glass, so a protector matters more here than on most devices. On the OLED, leave the factory film on and fit glass over it.
Three consoles, three sizes
| Console | Screen | Surface | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switch (original, 2017 and 2019 revision) | 6.2-inch | Plastic | Dock scratches are the classic complaint |
| Switch Lite | 5.5-inch | Plastic | Handheld only, lives in bags and pockets |
| Switch OLED | 7.0-inch | Plastic, with a factory film | Keep the film; fit glass on top |
| Switch 2 | 7.9-inch | Factory anti-scatter film | Separate guide |
Why plastic changes the maths
Phone cover glass resists everything softer than it, which is most things except sand. Plastic is softer than steel, zips, keys and plenty of grit, so it picks up fine scratches from normal handling. The dock is the worst offender, because the console slides down against the inner lip every time you seat it. A glass protector sits over the plastic, takes the scrapes, and costs a fraction of a screen repair.
Buying notes
- Sizes aren't interchangeable. Lite, original and OLED glass are all different, and none of them fit the Switch 2.
- Check dock fit. Thicker glass with raised edges can catch in the official dock; most reputable Switch protectors are cut slightly inside the bezel for that reason.
- Multipacks make sense for a console shared with children.
Questions people ask
Does the Nintendo Switch screen scratch easily?
Yes. The older Switch models use plastic screens, which mark more easily than phone glass, and the dock is the most common cause.
Can I use a Switch OLED protector on a Switch 2?
No. The OLED is 7.0-inch; the Switch 2 is 7.9-inch.
