Leave the factory film alone. Nintendo's safety manual says: “The screen is covered with a film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage. Do not peel it off.” If you want scratch protection, add 7.9-inch tempered glass on top of it.
The film is not a shipping sticker
Most electronics ship with a thin plastic film you're meant to peel off. The Switch 2's is different: it's bonded to the screen and is there to hold fragments together if the display breaks. Nintendo of Europe put the warning on page 2 of the safety manual, under careful usage. Nintendo did the same with the Switch OLED in 2021, and plenty of owners peeled that one off too.
Peeling it is also hard to undo: the film is not sold separately, so the only route back is a screen repair.
So do you need a protector as well?
The factory film resists shattering, not scratching. What scratches a Switch 2 is everyday handling: seating it in the dock, sliding it into a bag beside a charger, children's fingernails. A tempered glass protector takes that wear and can be replaced for a few pounds.

Buying for the Switch 2
- 7.9-inch, Switch 2-specific. Original Switch (6.2-inch) and Switch OLED (7.0-inch) glass does not fit.
- Alignment frame included. At this size a crooked fit shows immediately.
- Multipacks. Cheap, and handheld protectors get replaced more often than phone ones.
- Check dock clearance if you use a third-party dock with a tight lip.
If you already peeled it off
Don't panic: the console works normally. You've lost the anti-shatter layer, not a functional part. Fit a good tempered glass protector, which bonds across the whole screen and gives back some of that protection, and use a case that covers the screen when the console is in a bag.
