Touchscreen not working after a screen protector

Modern touchscreens work fine through normal protectors. When they don't, the problem is usually local: an area, an edge, or a moment right after fitting.

Short answer

Turn on touch sensitivity (Android) and restart the phone. If a specific spot is dead, look for a bubble or dust there. If the edges don't respond, the protector is lifting or too thick. If the phone taps by itself, remove the case to check for pressure on the glass.

Test without the protector

Open a drawing app or drag an icon slowly across the screen. Then remove the protector and repeat. If the problem remains without the protector, the display itself needs attention.

iPhone note

iPhones don't have a touch-sensitivity toggle. If touch is poor through a protector, it's almost always a bubble, lifting edge or unusually thick glass. See Face ID problems for issues at the top of the screen.

Questions people ask

Can a screen protector make a touchscreen less sensitive?

Very thick or poorly bonded protectors can. Normal glass shouldn't.

Why is my phone ghost touching after a new screen protector?

Often case pressure, moisture or static. Remove the case, dry the screen and restart.
